Exercise Requirements

The Irish Doodle doesn’t need a lot of exercise. Instead, a moderate amount of daily activity, through games like fetch and a walk or a jog, will help keep your dog happy and in healthy. It won’t be too hard to keep your Irish Doodle in shape, as long as they are active and spend time outdoors.

Irish Doodles also LOVE swimming, another excellent form of exercise. They are playful, goofy, and energetic.

Are Irish Doodles hypo-allergenic and non-shedding?

Irish Doodles may or may not be hypoallergenic. This is because of their Irish Setter genes – this parent breed sheds quite a lot and isn’t hypoallergenic. Therefore, an Irish Doodle that inherits the Setter parent’s coat could shed, triggering allergies in sensitive people.

First-generation Irish Doodles are 50% Irish Setters and 50% Poodles. This means that a first-generation (F1) Irish Doodle could inherit the shedding gene from the Setter parent. The F1-B Irish Doodle is obtained by crossing an Irish Doodle back to the Poodle. Due to this additional Poodle breeding, an F1-B puppy is more likely to be hypoallergenic, with little to no shedding.

Do Irish Doodles Need Grooming?

Yes, Irish Doodles will need regular grooming. The coat of an Irish Doodle is probably one of the most unpredictable things about the breed. The tight curls of the Poodle mixed with the long and straight coat of the Irish Setter leave a wide range of possibilities.

At a minimum, an Irish Doodle will need daily brushing. You can take your Irish Doodles to a Professional Groomer, or you can always groom an Irish Doodle at home – simply keep the body and legs short and the face and tail long. How often you bathe your Irish Doodle depends on how dirty it gets. In general, you can bathe your Irish Doodle once a month. While you have an idea of what they will look like when they are a puppy, it can change as they become full-grown. Most owners wait until the puppy is 6-9 months old before they get their first trim to allow the hair to become full.

Are Irish Doodles Easy to Train?

Thankfully, these smart dogs are highly-trainable. Stick to a strict feeding and potty schedule. Use positive reinforcement training and tasty treats and soon you’ll have a house-trained puppy on hand. They are gentle with other pets and kids, so they make fantastic family dogs. Our Irish Doodles are bred to love and are the perfect match for almost any home.
